In The Very Annoying Ghost, by Kyle Mewburn, Ricky’s parents decide to look for another house to move into because theirs is very run down. They end up finding out about a really fancy house in a super fancy neighborhood for an extremely cheap price. They are a bit curious about why it is so cheap, but still have a look at it. When they get there, they think the house looks amazing, so they buy it. After they move in, really weird things keep happening all around the house, but they have no idea what is causing them. It doesn’t make sense. And they especially have no idea it is a ghost causing all the trouble.
Now if you think you might get scared by reading a ghost story, don’t worry. This isn’t a scary ghost story. In fact, this ghost is pretty funny and annoying and very, very posh. The ghost is always doing so much annoying stuff, I would rather live in their old run down house instead of the new fancy one. This ghost seems so annoying, it makes my annoying sister seem really nice (but don’t tell her I said that).
The parents do find out about the ghost, but I don’t want to spoil it by telling you what they do. I do find it weird that when everyone finds out about the ghost in their house, they act all calm and normal, like this is something that happens to people every day. In fact, they find it comforting that it is a ghost causing all the commotion, because now they know why all the things are happening. If there was a ghost in my house, I would definitely be more scared then these people were. I would want to leave the house as soon as possible.
I enjoyed reading this book because it is really funny and very interesting. I like how the ghost is always finding new ways to annoy the family and how Ricky is always having to find ways to get rid of the ghost. I would recommend this book to people that are aged 10 to 13, possibly younger.
I did a search on the internet to learn more about the author, Kyle Mewburn, and found out she has her own website. I learned that she’s written a lot of picture books and chapter books. She also does school visits, which look like they’d be really fun for little kids. What I also learned was that she says that she was really naughty in school when she was growing up and was frequently fighting with the other children at school. This got her sent to the headmaster’s office. While she was at the headmaster’s office, she would get struck three times on her fingers with a cane. Ouch! I am sure glad that students aren’t allowed to be hit by their teachers or their principals nowadays.

Hi Charlie!
What a thoughtful (in a “given lots of thought” way, not in a “how kind” way) review. Glad you enjoyed it. Though I might try to boost the scariness factor next time round.
Being “caned” certainly wasn’t fun, so I’m glad it’s been outlawed as well. It never achieved anything anyway – if you’re inherently naughty violence isn’t going to stop you.
Oh, and what’s your sister’s address – I have something to tell her… 🤔😁
Best wishes
Kyle
